Sciatica

Sciatica

Occasionally a bulging, degenerated or ruptured disc can cause inflammation of the sciatic nerve and cause pain, numbness, or tingling throughout the lower back and lower extremities.
In addition, Sciatica can also be caused by a small muscle called the Piriformis muscle. A large portion of the population has the sciatic nerve running directly through this muscle. When the muscle spasms, tightens or swells due to trauma (fall), overuse (walking with your toes pointing out) or pressure (sitting on your wallet), it can cause the nerve to become impinged or trapped.  The resulting irritation of the sciatic nerve sends sharp pains into your leg.  You may feels as though your leg may want to buckle or the pain is strong enough that you are unable to walk upright for more than a few paces.

Dr. Boothe and Dr. Shelton will evaluate these symptoms and recommend the use of spinal adjustments and rehabilitative exercises to reduce the pain and return their patients to normal activities of daily living.
